Dr. Hopkins specializes in hip and knee total joint replacement and is trained in the latest techniques in total joint replacement including

  • Hip Resurfacing, (metal-on-metal) which is a more conservative alternative to hip replacement for the younger, more active patient in need of hip replacement

  • Large Diameter Head Metal-on-Metal Total Hip Replacement, also an excellent alternative for the more active patient in need of total hip replacement. Both of these offer a more durable replacement with much enhanced hip stability

  • Computer Navigation of Hip & Knee Replacement, which involves use of GPS-like computer which maps patient anatomy and tracks surgical instrumentation in real time during surgery allowing precise implant positioning

  • Ceramic-on-Ceramic Total Hip Replacement

  • Gender-Specific Total Knee Replacement, with implants designed specifically for women

  • Quadriceps-Sparing Total Knee Replacement

  • Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (Partial Knee Replacement, replaces one of the three Compartments of knee)

  • The New Bicompartmental Knee Replacement (Replaces two of the three compartments of the knee, allowing preservation of both the ACL and PCL. Excellent option for the younger, more active patient in need of total knee replacement)

  • High-Flexion Knee Replacement, offering up to 155 degrees of knee flexion in comparison to standard knee replacements

  • Minimally Invasive Total Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery

Dr. Hopkins was an integral part of a high volume total joint practice while at Baylor College of Medicine which performed over 1500 total joint replacements a year. He has served as a consultant to major joint replacement implant companies and has held numerous leadership positions including Chief of Joint Replacement at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston, TX and served as Director of The Methodist Hospital Charity Joint Replacement Program at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center both from 2001-2005.
